Resource: Emergency Support Plan

Dementia Auckland is advising all carers and families to create an Emergency Plan, both for the primary carer and for the person living with dementia that they support.

This will ensure that everyone knows what to do in an emergency to ensure all members of your ‘bubble’ will be safe and taken care of should something unexpected happen.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic Shutdown our usual responses to an emergency may have to be quite different. All New Zealanders are being encouraged to live in distinct ‘bubbles’ and older adults encouraged to stay at home.

Local A&E Clinics are not as easy to access and GP practices are working ‘virtually’ at present where they can.

Medical events, injuries and crisis can still happen in the middle of a pandemic. Emergencies can happen when we least expect it – day or night.

It is important to be prepared, in advance, for an emergency situation that may involve the person living with dementia or the person who is caring for them.
